Scrap the Boys DT, June 2018 - Howzat

Hello Scrappy Friends, welcome back to my blog today where I'm sharing a DT layout for

Scrap the Boys.
 The challenge is to use this sketch to scrap about the boy/s (of any age) in your life,
using stitching on your layout.  It can be machine or hand sewn.

I chose to use machine stitching on this Cricket page.

The background paper is an oldie from my stash Basic Grey, Archaic Collection.

To create the cricket ground, I used Blue Fern chipboard, Beaded Strings
which I coated with white gesso.

The cricketer is a chipboard piece from
Scrapmatts.

The journalling is on the back of the page and it reads:-
 One day last year, we came to watch you play cricket for the school and were thrilled to see you slamming bat on ball and scoring runs for your team.  You'd been practicing your bowling in the lead up to the season and had developed a wily leg spin which managed to trick some of the opposition players into exposing their leg stump.  Unfortunately, your elderly relatives got so involved in the run rate that we yelled run! run! We shouldn't have because we managed to get you run out.   We felt so sorry, as you'd been batting beautifully.  You took it with good grace, like a Sportsman, but I could see the disappointment on your face.   Love Granny, 18 November 2017

Kraft+ DT - Dr Suess

Hello again Scrappy Friends, welcome; today I'm sharing a DT post for 

KRAFT+

Welcome to June and a new direction and focus for Kraft Plus Challenges. 

We are now less focused on prizes and competition 

and we are now directing our focus to 

Community, Participation and Inspiration.

We hope you join us.!

We have a corker of a challenge for you this month.
Take a look at this fabulous mood board by Amanda Hall.
If you'd like to play along, be sure to create on Kraft.

We had stacks of Dr. Suess books when our Boys were young and the 
Grandchildren love them too.

Our family loves books and we like to start reading to Bubbas 
from the time they can keep their eyes open!

From the plethora of amusing quotes by Dr Suess, I settled on this one, 
as it suited the photo perfectly.

I used my gel plate and some gesso to create the background 
with a Crafter's Workshop stencil, TCW 361.
The inked stripes were added via a Tim Holtz stencil THS 00.
For the yellow alphabet, I used another Tim Holtz stencil THS 011.

The quote was created in Photoshop.  
I wanted to get a leopard print on the word WILD, it looked sooo easy on you tube!
Grrr! a five minute task which took me forever!

The journalling is on the back of the page and it reads:-

  At the Baby shower just before you were born, guests were invited to 

gift a favourite book from their childhood. 

I loved the idea, as did others and you now have a big collection to choose from.  

When you were five months old we flew to Melbourne to visit you at your home. My Sister came to visit as she'd not met you before. She brought a bright rustling parcel for you. 

At five months, you were more interested in the wrapping paper, than you were in the book, but I'm confident you will be a bibliophile like the rest of your cousins.

Scrap Matix DT - "The point is" May 2018

Welcome back to the Scrap Matrix challenge where this month

the challenge is "The point is."

Use triangles, stars, arrows, chevrons, diamonds... 

maybe make it about your "point" of view...

Use your creativity and imagination, along with the moodboard to make your point! 

So let's get to the other Point.........here's the inspiration from the Design Team, and as usual they are 

ON POINT!

SCRAP MATRIX

I was inspired by the triangles and the chevrons, as well at the greys and black.

This graphic paper also lead the way to using crisp lines with lots of angles.

To emphasize the points, I trimmed a couple of big triangles from this paper 
and mounted it on black to suit the black and white photo.

This looked too stark, so I added a few smaller triangles 
and fiddled around with placement.  

I made a few pencil lines around the edges, 
as I planned to add some mixed media under the photo
and some stamping along the bottom.

The Prima Rustic washers were added to draw the eye to the photo.

The title was cut from a different paper collection.  
I love the way it combines with the image on the hoodie.

I tucked a couple of extra triangles in to balance the design.

The journalling is on the back of the page and it reads:-

At almost ten years of age, one of your favourite things to do is to draw maps, especially all the inlets along the coast lines.  You make a point of being accurate and trying to learn the capital cities of all the countries on the world map.  You like to test our knowledge  of really obscure countries and are quite chuffed if we make a mistake!  Another of your passions at the moment is jokes and riddles and we make sure to memorize a new batch before we see you.  I love that you now have a finely honed sense of humor and appreciate the subtleties of word play, often going off on a new riff of your own. 

 Such fun to play with words - love you to the moon and back big boy -

Scrap Matrix DT - Tic Tac Toe - Helen's second Project. Together

Hello there, welcome back to my blog where today I'm sharing another project for the

 Scrap Matrix Team.

The challenge is to create a project using a tic tac toe monochromatic theme.

For those of you who have not come across this before, the idea is to use any three objects from the grid, but they must be in a straight line horizontally, vertically or even diagonally. You may use any monochromatic colours you like.

Here is the grid for you to choose from.

This time I'm creating with different shades of pink with black and white as neutrals.
I followed the top grid line using 
Brads, flairs or buttons, a Stamp, & Pretty patterned paper. 

The gorgeous pink paper is from 13@rts, the Art Journey collection, "Travel."

I began with the background, creating texture with Prima stencils,

Wildflower and Checker and Modelling Paste.

Then using Ranger black archival ink, I stamped three sets of the AALL #20 Flower stamp

which I coloured with various Distress Oxide inks, before fussy cutting them out.

The title is by 13@rts - I painted it with Tim Holtz Distress Ink and added some faux stitched lines with a black pen.

I added some beads and bling to the middle of the flowers.

Because this little Girl's first word was "Birdie", I added a little Bird button to the cluster.

Scrap the Boys DT project - # Stylish

Hello Scrappy Friends, welcome back to my blog today where I'm sharing a DT layout for

the May challenge at Scrap the Boys

As the name suggests, we are all about scrapping the Boy's in our lives.
What do you think of the mood board this month? It totally took my breath away and I couldn't wait to get started.

I was absolutely inspired by the dramatic colours, the debonair models and the Monstera leaves.

Attempting to achieve the vibrancy of the colours, I used Tim Holtz alcohol inks for the big leaf and created the shape with a cut file.   I  stitched around the edge and darkened the edges with various Prima pencils.

The dragonfly is an oldie from Imaginarium designs.  I coloured it with Dylusions Shimmer sprays and  scattered a few prills along the body.

The little heart chippies are from my stash, I think they are ScrapFX.
The flower and leaves, I just cut with die cuts from the scraps of the alcohol ink paper.

The journalling is on the back of the page and it reads:-
Raising Sons can be a pretty messy business.  There always seemed to be mountains of washing to tend to, industrial strength piles of food to provide, incessant notes about who needed to be where for co-curricular activities and multiple secret phone calls with the phone cord snaking it's way up the passage, well away from parental ears.  Heaven forbid we should know anything about anybody!   But all things are passing and as the hormonal outbursts receded, we were gradually afforded tiny sentences muttered in passing, like an occasional pat on the head.  We treated those gems with the reverence they deserved, never attempting to tease them into something like a conversation!
And it came to pass, after University, that we too, had learned a few things and we connected as adults.   So where am I going with all this, well may you ask?   Was it tough?  Yes, at times.   Was it worth it?  Absolutely!   Would I do it all again?  In a heart beat.  So when I look at my youngest Son, looking so debonair on his Wedding Day and think about his gifts of tenacity, compassion, loyalty and tolerance, I can't help but feel proud and blessed that we are his parents.
