Bliss

When I saw the colours for CSI this week, I immediately remembered a very special holiday in Bali.

The idea of the challenge is to use all five colours,

at least two items from the evidence prompts,

and at least one item from the testimony prompts.

Some designers like to try and use them all.

Here is how I cracked the case.

The papers are from older Kaisercraft ranges Peachy Keen, "Neat"

75 cents, "Guinea" and Golden arabesque.

The hibiscus were fussy cut from an old My Mind's Eye paper

TESTIMONY

I used the inspiration words, tranquil, sleep, light and the dream vacation prompts 

The journalling reads:-

We were in Bali for our Son’s wedding and decided to extend our stay in Indonesia to explore the mountains around Ubud.  The area is famous for it’s artists and writers as well as traditional dance and theatre.   We stayed in a small Villa with a gorgeous tropical garden, an open air bathroom and a plunge pool.  After exploring the area on foot during the day, we returned to this beautiful room and enjoyed a one hour massage.   The Balinese women used aromatic oils and their magic fingers induced a light sleep.  When we woke there was a cup of herbal tea to enjoy.   Fresh flowers, coolness, peace, tranquility.  Absolute bliss. October 2008

I struggled a bit with this colour palette until I found 
an old paper with the pink tones on it.  
I used a sketch from PURPLE PUMPKIN which I really love.

The photo is not the best quality, but it was a happy day so it made the cut.

The green paper is from by Paper loft - Granny’s House, Tatting/Tea time
The brown, floral paper is also Paper Loft - Back Country, “Mountain meadow”
The orange is from Echo Park - “Borders”

The wooden title and stars are from Studio Calico

The wooden ruler is by Prima 
The border punch is by Martha Gardner - embossed zigzag

TESTIMONY

I used the inspiration words, Giggle and Enjoy as part of the journalling which is on the back of the page.

I found this quote recently and it reminded me to treat children as unique individuals, each with their own gifts and talents.   Not that there is any danger of you and your twin being lumped together in a “one size fits all” approach, because you just would not respond to that.  You are different is almost every way.  Occasionally you come to blows, if your brother has something you’d like and vice versa.   I am surprised at how readily you share, once you’ve had a won the battle.  You are such lucky boys to have Parents that make you giggle, who enjoy playing with you, and are happy to take you to playgroup to meet your little friends.  Journalling   9 Feb ’14    Love Granny  

Altered chipboard

It's time for the mid month challenge at Scrap Africa

 This time it is hosted by Ada Nicholls

The challenge is to use chipboard and to alter it in some way

I decided to make a card for a special friend and

used some chipboard from my stash

 I think is was made by Scrapworx

First I gave the chipboard two coats of gesso, then a coat of 

Tim Holtz distress ink "Faded Jeans"

Finally I applied embossing ink and "Aged marine" embossing enamel

which I melted that with a heat gun and while still hot, 

added some gold mica fragments, which I melted again.

It may sound complicated, but didn't take long and I love the effect with this vintage image.

Eddy

Today I'm sharing a DT team layout for CSI
These muted colours were perfect for a page about our 
Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. 
I reversed the sketch by Em Stafrace to better suit my photo

 Eddy was a sweet natured and friendly little dog, who spread unconditional love wherever he went. His lack of vision didn’t stop him playing chasy with our other dog Meggie.  He gracefully floated up stairs as though he had 20/20 vision and he liked nothing better than to nest in someone’s lap 
anytime of the day.

TESTIMONY

I chose to journal from my pet’s point of view.   The journalling reads:-

It was an ordinary day, just like every other day.  I was cuddled up next to Mummy with my brothers and sisters, all warm and cozy in our blankets.  I got excited when a group of people came to visit, thinking they might take me home with them. Then I heard one of the adults saying, “No, I don’t think we will take him. If he is blind in one eye, he might incur lots of vet bills and have a difficult life with three boisterous boys.”  I felt sad, because that’s what the people had said yesterday.  Then one of the boys said “How can you say that you won’t take him, just because he’s not perfect, he needs us more than any of the other pups do?”  The grown ups were shaking their heads, so I crept across and sneaked into their carry basket with a big, goofy smile on my face and my head cocked on the side.  It seemed to do the trick, because they smiled right back at me and paid the breeder. I soon found my way around their home and learned to avoid obstacles.   I didn’t like having a bath, but tolerated it just to please them.  I jumped for joy when they came home and smothered them with happy licks. I always knew when they were worried or sad &  jumped onto their laps to calm their spirits.  They cried when I had to go to Doggy Heaven.

TESTIMONY

I was inspired by the words READ and SIMPLE

You have always been fascinated with alphabet books.  You have your favourites which you read over and over when you come to visit.  Now that you are six and in Grade 1, you seem slightly less content with what’s on the bookshelf and ask what is new.  Last week, for the first time ever, you were a bit bored.  We offered to take you to the library, but it was 43 degrees, so we decided against it.  “How about we play Boggle, Rummiking, Monopoly, Scrabble?”  “Not really thanks Granny, I’d like to do something with Alphabets.”   I suggested, “How about we make an alphabet book?”  Your eyebrows rose quizzically “How could we do that?”  I found an exercise book and an old magazine.  We wrote a letter at the top of each page and then flicked through the magazine, identifying and writing down the objects we found.  Such a cheap and simple game and you loved it.  To be continued............Love Granny

One of my favourite papers from the Dreaming in Meadows Collection is “Dreaming in Rose”.   The soft colours and dainty, romantic pattern were perfect to create a shabby chic card. 

I love that the papers are sturdy and are easy to distress.

I reversed the sketch to suit the photo and used the flowers to replace the circles

The bricks are there, they just didn't photograph well

I used some older Authentique papers that I've been hoarding.

The chip board corners, heart sprigs and words are from Scrapmatts

This photo was taken on Christmas day with you in the new party dress we'd given you.  The minute you opened your parcel, you started undressing, so you could wear your new dress for lunch.  I wanted to take lots of photos of you in it, but you gave me one twirl and that was it.  "No more Granny, I've got to play now please"
